Quite surprisingly today England announced that David Cameron would be the new prime minister, shortly after Gordon Brown resigned. The queen announced Cameron as the new prime minister Tuesday night. This has been a huge victory for Conservatives in England, it is their first victory since 1997 when the Tony Blair and the Labour Party won. The Conservatives have jumped over party lines and formed a coalition with the Lib Dems, giving the Labour Party the cold shoulder in the wake of Brown's resignation. Cameron seems to be taking after U.S. President Obama, appointing Lib Dem nominee and former opponent, Nick Clegg as deputy prime minister. Cameron is already making an attempt to rally the country together, encouraging the British people not to focus on themselves but on how they can help the country. He has also promised to put aside major party divisions and act in the best interest of the country with the Lib Dems. Time will tell how the coalition works out, until then, here's to an end of a week of uncertainty in England.
