Mexico's Escalating Violence

http://www.bbc.com/news/world-latin-america-32560494

In Mexico, an army helicopter was shot at, leaving 3 dead and 12 wounded. The government claims it is an attack launched by the cartel, (but the government has been known to place attacks on certain groups to gain popularity in the war on drugs) it is believed this is a retaliation due to the capture of cartel members, or it is a prominent gang in the area, the Jalisco New Generation. There has been a lot of pushback against the war on drugs in Mexico under Nieto because the PRI was aligned with the cartels before the break in the PRI regime. Statewide, at least seven people were killed Friday, May 1, due to escalating violence involving gangs and cartels.
