Austria tries out new study to eliminate unemployment

Austria will be trying out a new study in which they guarantee paid, part time jobs for those who are unemployed in an attempt to eliminate long term unemployment. The jobs will be ranging from fields such as childcare, gardening, and home renovations for example. Leaders from around the world say this could be the solution to recovering the economy from Covid-19. The purpose is to see how a guaranteed job could improve the well-being of a community and the individuals within it, and to try to prevent the financial and psychological hardships on individuals and families affected by losing jobs. The participants of the study will be those who have been on unemployment for a year or longer. They will have to take a two month training course and then will be able to choose a subsidized job based off of their skill set or community needs. Participants will also be offered counseling and medical support if they need it. The project will be funded by the Public Employment Service of Lower Austria and is expected to cost around 7.4 Million Euros.
