Pentagon Draw-Down at U.S. Embassies Prompts Concern About Ceding Field to Global Rivals

The Pentagon has begun to shift its resources at U.S. embassies in several countries including the U.K., Saudis Arabia, and several key embassies in West Africa. The embassies in West Africa are important because they are facing resistance from islamist insurgencies that are linked to the Islamic State and Al Qaeda. The embassies are affect U.S.' ability face these threats because the officials in the embassies are in charge of training foreign militaries, gathering intelligence, arranging arm sales, and coordinating American military assets during emergencies. The Pentagon is doing this in order to add more resources to counter act China and Russia. This makes it clear that however dangerous islamic terrorism is, the Pentagon sees China and Russia has a greater threat to the United States' national security.
