At least 13 dead after magnitude 6.8 earthquake shakes Ecuador

On Saturday, March 18th, an earthquake struck near the southern town of Baláo, Ecuador. According to government officials, at least 13 people have been confirmed dead. Later on it was discovered that 461 people have been injured in the quake and the death toll was updated to 16. The Ecuadorian  president states that the people who were injured were being treated at local hospitals but provided no further details. In one of Ecuador's largest cities, Cuenca, there was reported structural damage to several buildings.
