A war that can't be won with military force? Who would have thought!

CNN. com had an artical on how the war in Afghanistan cannot be won by miltary force, rather politics and economics should starts playing a part in the fight againt the Taliban. Gen. Abdul Rahim Wardak was quoted in saying, "Economically, we must improve the lives of the people, help find them work. Politically, we need to reach a middle ground and have everyone accept the Afghan constitution."

So what does this say about American presence in the Middle East and more specifically does it Afghanistan? I never thought fighting an age old idea with force was ever a practical to start with. I feel as if we have been out smarted because there is no real way to fight something that does not claim a country, rather it claims an idea. Is one of the biggest "wars" finally being seen through diplomatic means? are politics and economics the way to find a balance and bring stability to one of the most unstable parts of the world? I guess only time will tell.
