Hina Latif: I can only imagine the images and thoughts of many people when seeing and hearing of the harsh realities of the women in Afghanistan and other Islamic countries. Being Muslim and living in a country where religion is not forced upon or questioned, in certain situations, I probably have those same thoughts and questions, however I'm able to point out the culture clash in those Islamic countries, between the religion and culture. It's interesting how the perspective of religion can be so different depending on where you live in the world.
This article that was posted on October 5,2008 talked about how the women of Afganistan are taking on more roles within the society. They are driving cars, taking on roles on council, and even the first female govoner has been established. Shockingly enough 80% of the women are illerate, and have a lower life expectancy. most of the women are married at such young ages( thats a cultural tradition within the middle east) and make it difficlut to finish or achive higher education because of the corrupted ideas that those societies have established.
throughout the article the shared several of the stories of the women who have found new roles, and the one that really was interesting was about the governer who was also and educator and held a literacy class underground during the Taliban regime.
