Obama orders Gitmo closed within one year

On Thursday January 22, 2009, President Obama made the formal decision to shut down Guantanamo Bay. He has signed an order that has put an end to extreme interrogation tools such as waterboarding. Different from President Bush, Obama claims that the closing of Guantanamo Bay is in the best interest of the US, and therefore is trying to send a message to the world that the United States will not cease in their fight against terrorists, but will be fighting from the "high ground." In addition to the terrorist prison, the order called for an immediate stop to secret CIA terrorist prisons. The question that arises from the closing o this prison is: What do we do with the 250 prisoners being detained? Many conservatives agree with the closing, but do not agree with the ultimate release of prisoners, nor letting them across US borders. Slowly but surely, Barack Obama and his cabinet will rebuild America's rapport. Yes, Guantanamo Bay is wrong in many different lights, but our country feared what these prisoners were capable of. I believe that fear led this tragic dark spot on America's reputation. With change in every one's minds, and a President who is already acting towards a world of change for America, America's repertoire will be cleaned up. The pressing question still remains, what are we going to do with 250 terrorist fugitives? There has been an attempt to put them in other countries, however; the countries that received that proposal, turned it down. We will just have to keep reading updates on Gitmo.
