According to the Delta Project, which is a project fostered by a nonprofit organization to make college education more affordable for students, American students from public and private institutions are paying more than ever, but are getting lees, as the budget that goes to instruction has declined. They say that the increment has gone in its majority to administrative costs, not for students.
The interesting point they make is that even if the tuition had increased because of the increase in administrative costs and costs in general, it would have increased only 2.5% in public universities, where it went up almost 30%; and in private colleges it would have increased 1.9%, and it did it in 12.5%. Where does the money go?
