Senior White House Officials stated that the Pakistani Taliban were behind what was earlier this week regarded a "lone wolf" attempted car bomb attack in Times Square. This event marked the first time that the group has been able to launch an attack of US soil. The US government did a good job downplaying the attack "citing the bombings lack of sophistication." However this shows that terrorist groups are growing in power. We are uncertain about what this new evidence will do for US-Pakistan relations. The US Attorney General believes that the Taliban helped plan and direct this attack, however he has not yet released what the new evidence was that led him to believe it was the Pakistani Taliban. A suspected US missile has killed 10 along the Afghan-Pakistan border since Shahzad has been accused of the attack. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton believes there will be more cooperation from Pakistan to fight terrorism. She warned of "severe consequences" if attacks on US soil could be traced back to the country.
