North Korea is Reportedly Granting Amnesty to Prisoners in Birthday Celebration

In celebration of the late Kim Jong-il and Kim ll-sung’s birthdays North Korea has decided to grant amnesty for prisoners. However, there has been no information release as to how many prisoners will receive amnesty. This comes as a shock because just last year Amnesty international had reported through satellite pictures that North Korean prisons were expanding. KCNA said that amnesty would begin February 1st. It will be interesting to hear if the new leader, Kim Jong-un comes out with a personal statement on this humanitarian act.
