Chinese President Xi Jinping and Taiwan's ruling party leader Eric Chu met to settle political differences between the two sides. China views Taiwan as a Chinese province that should return to the country. Warming relations between the two sides has caused protests and opposition to the idea of reunification. Taiwan's growing economic dependency on Beijing may lead to that result, and Xi claims that they will open up to Taiwan and help its economy to develop as long as Taiwan accepts it is part of China.
