A US Congressional panel released a "freedom report" which found that India's minority religious groups (mostly Christian and Muslim) have faced increased discrimination and persecution following the election of India's current PM. However India rejects this report's findings and says the panel does not have a good understanding of India or how their religious minorities are treated. People have criticized India's current government for not doing more to protect religious minorities from Hindu zealots and extremists. In the past year since, following the PM election, there has been increased violence (especially church burnings), yet India's police force has claimed they have seen little evidence of this increase. India also claims they had no idea that this report was being conducted and that it's findings were incorrect due to a lack of first hand knowledge of India and it's normal cultural/religious practices.
