Nigeria Takes On New Leader
On Thursday Nigeria swore in their new leader, only hours before the former leader, Umaru Yar'Adua , was buried. The former leader was only 58 at the time of his unfortunate death and his new predecessor Goodluck Jonathan took over. Jonathan has experienced some resentment over the past couple of days since he is a Southern Christian, the Northern Muslims have voiced their opinions. Jonathan faces many tough tasks in the coming months, but now instead of an "acting president" he is the full president and therefore has more of an official title and job. The country does have an election coming up next year, but until then Jonathan will hold office and have to deal with all the challenges that come his way. Jonathan has already appointed his cabinet and signed a new budget bill, this makes analysts confident that Jonathan will lead his country well, maybe well enough to win the polls over next year.
