Early Thursday morning a Russian Destroyer freed a captured oil tanker taken by what is thought to be Somalian pirates. The 23 man crew trapped themselves inside the rudder compartment of the ship to escape the pirates. This was seen to be a setback of the European Unions anti piracy task force which is supposed to protect these ships from pirates. The destroyer sent a helicopter at the destroyer and when it got close the pirates opened fire on it. Knowing the crew were safe inside the helicopter fired back. The pirates but up a robust fight but eventually surrendered to a boarding party. This is just a continued example of the rise of piracy in the world. Many of these pirates come from Somalia where a crippled government and a extremely poor country fuels their interests of becoming pirates. Over the last year these pirates have collected over 100 million dollars in ransom money.
