EU Meeting in Bratislava: ”Critical Situation”

Since June 23rd, Europe has been grappling with the aftermath of the UK population’s decision to leave the EU, otherwise known as Brexit. EU members are meeting to discuss ways to unite, restore credibility, and stabilize this organization. The main topics to be discussed are migration, security, and globalization. EU members are deeply divided on many topics, one being how to deal with high levels of migrants entering Europe. For instance, Luxembourg is calling for Hungary to be suspended for their government’s treatment of migrants. Overall, the purpose for this meeting is to kick-start the EU’s momentum and get everybody on the same page. The EU needs this unity before lengthy Brexit negotiations in 2017, which have the potential to divide member countries even further.
