A while ago, General Stanley McChrystal asked the president for 40,000 troops for Afghanistan. Robert Gates, the U.S. defense secretary, has stated that time will be needed to figure out what to do with the current situation. This week there will be meetings set up within the Obama administration for talks on what their next move will be. It is agreed that they must first come up with a strategy before being able to estimate the amount of troops they will send. While Joe Biden favors the strategy of more unmanned bombings and direct attacks toward Al-Qaeda, General McChrystal is hoping to go for a hearts-and-minds type victory.
