Food prices are rising worldwide and the main reason is a global fertilizer shortage. And the reason there is a fertilizer shortage is that gas is a huge part of the production of fertilizer and since gas prices are on the rise it is becoming much harder to produce fertilizer. Although this affects everyone it mostly affects poorer states that have people that are simply struggling to buy food to add to this a lot of poorer countries depend on farming which is getting harder and harder to do with less fertilizer. The main gas used in fertilizers is ammonia which has risen in price by about 225% from last year. The price change is due to many factors but a lot has to do with our changing climate and the pandemic. Yet not all hope is lost as Yara International donated 40,000 tonnes of fertilizer.
