A 1,200 foot ship off the coast of Huntington Beach was dragging its anchor on the sea floor to help stability during rough waves. According to the Coast Guard, the anchor caught the pipeline and dragged it across that sea floor. This has most likely caused an oil spill in the Pacific. Authorities have estimated that over 25,000 gallons of crude oil have spilled into the ocean if the pipeline is broken. this will have large repercussions for the Southern Californian wetlands as well as the wildlife in the ocean. Cleanup crews have closed Huntington Beach to minimize the damage on land.
