Indonesian volcano erupts, 14 dead

Mount Semeru in Jakarta Indonesia erupted on Saturday, December 4th. Early on Saturday were the first signs of billowing smoke and ash clouds. The villages are used to small eruptions, but nothing as severe as what occurred yesterday. Fourteen people have been announced dead so far with 56 others wounded and others still missing. The heavy ash has covered villages as high as entire homes and vehicles, making it impossible for rescue teams to make it to some villages. The evacuations continue as people within at least 6 miles of the volcano are subject to potential pyroclastic flows, which is volcanic materials running at up to 1000 degrees Celsius. A relocation process has begun in many villages as the threat of the volcano is not over.
