Finland to be NATO's Thirty First Member on April 4th

On April third NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg announced that NATO will become an official member of NATO. This membership is in response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, making Finland and Sweden make the decision to join NATO, a choice that they remained hesitant to make until the war started. This news came after Finland's election and Stoltenberg stated on social media "I look forward to raising Finland's flag at NATO headquarters in the coming days. Together we are stronger and safer". This has a large impact on NATO's relations with Russia because this has been a tense subject for the last few years, as Russia strongly opposed Finland joing NATO and having a NATO border within a couple hundred miles from one of Russia's biggest cities, St. Petersburg. Turkey is expected to hand over the documents ratifying Finland into NATO on Tuesday, and Stoltenberg stated that he expects Sweden's ratification to come in the coming weeks.
