On Tuesday, Israeli police raided the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem's Old City, and physically assaulted the Palestinian worshipers that were inside. Protests ensued, with the Militant group Hamas, who governs the Gaza Strip, calling for protests and confrontation. Additionally, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas's spokesperson stating that for Israeli law enforcement to attack Palestinian worshippers in a Mosque “exceeds all red lines and will lead to a large explosion.” Israeli police claim that the worshippers in the Mosque were hiding fireworks, rocks, and sticks and that one officer was hit with a rock, and claimed it arrested "dozens of rioters". This comes at a time when violence has been taking place between Israeli's and Palestinians for months, and tensions are being exacerbated by the overlap of the Jewish and Islamic holidays of Passover and Ramadan.
