On Saturday, thousands of protestors across Portugal gathered to protest against soaring housing prices. Inflation is currently very high, and the increase to house prices is only making it more difficult for people to make ends meet. Protestors argue that this is a social emergency and something needs to be done as Portugal is one of Western Europe's poorest countries. This issue is especially hard on the younger population in Portugal. The low wages and high rent/housing rates make it too expensive for people to even rent a small apartment. Tourist accommodations can be associated with the rising inflation.
