Mattis pushes closer ties to Vietnam amid tension with China

US Defense Secretary James Mattis has made his second visit to Vietnam this year to talk with Vietnamese leaders about the growing Chinese military presence in the South China Sea. this could mark the beginning of a new US-Vietnam alliance, unprecedented since the end of the Vietnam War. US aircraft carriers have even begun to stop in Major Vietnamese ports. China’s growing aggression in the SC sea has brought the US closer with a communist nation, the same communist government that we fought to prevent from taking over the country, but it seems nothing heals old wounds like protecting their shared economic interests against China.
