Norwegian who helped prevent Nazi nuclear scheme has died - Kel Goff

Joachim Roenneberg was a Norwegian resistance fighter who had helped prevent the Nazis from building an atomic bomb. During World War II, Roenneberg and resistance fighters bombed a hydroelectric power plant that contained deuterium oxide, a material Germans would have used to attempt to create its first atomic bombs. Roenneberg left Norway when Germany invaded in 1940 (Chappell). In Britain, he trained with U.K. forces to continue the battle against Nazi Germany and Adolph Hitler's reign. Operation "Gunnerside," which Roenneberg and his team participated in inspired both a movie (The Heroes of Telemark) and the Norwegian six-part series called The Heavy Water War (Chappell). Throughout his various missions against Nazi Germany, Roenneberg faced life or death situations in dangerous conditions. Yet, he maintained his humility and continuously gave credit to his teammates. The Prime Minister of Norway has called Roenneberg a hero.
