In Hawaii's Honolulu International Airport, the Transportation Security Administration fired over 28 workers and suspended 15 more. Apparently, the workers were not screening the bags that passed through the gates.
Even more interesting, Honolulu's KITV 4 news stated that officers working in the morning would allow unchecked bags onto 9 daily flights. Sources, confirmed by CNN.com, stated that the events went on for four months. The agency declared a statement saying, "TSA holds its workforce to the highest ethical standards, and we will not tolerate employees who in any way compromise the security of the traveling public."
In addition to file-and-check screeners and supervisors, closed-circuit TV, random inspections, covert tests and peer and management oversights help maintain the integrity of the workers.
An additional 3 people resigned because of further investigation.
