Polio Spreads in China

There has been an outbreak of Polio in the Western Province of Xinjiang in China. Polio, a very infectious and potentially paralysis causing virus, is believed to have crossed the border between Pakistan and China. Polio was last discovered in China in 1999, when it was believed to have crossed into China from India. The Chinese government has responded by mass-vaccinating the region around the infected cases, and will continue to monitor the spread of the Virus. The World Health Organization has also warned that pilgrims traveling to Mecca could spread Polio across the region. China's quick response is important, however it should be noted that the region of Central Asia has a very low percentage of Polio vaccinations, which means this type of outbreak could happen again.
