Islamic militant group attacks northeastern Nigeria

This weekend, the Boko Haram or Nigerian Taliban, is suspected of having attacked the northeastern part of the nation in which Borno and Yobe State are located. With more than one hundred people killed, the U.S. mission in Nigeria issued a warning to American citizens currently inside the country, as more attacks maybe underway. Boko Haram's stated goal for initiating these attacks is to create a nation based on Islamic law, especially to the dominant Muslim part of northern Nigeria. Loosely translated, the militant group's name is literally, "Western education is sinful." Most of the attacks targeted police stations, mosques, and churches. Pope Benedict XVI acknowledged the attacks during his weekly Sunday Angelus prayers, calling for an end to the violence. The pope stated, ""I am following with apprehension the tragic episodes that have taken place in Nigeria over the last days... While I pray for the victims, I invite an end to the violence, which doesn't resolve the problems but increase them, sowing hatred and divisions even amongst the faithful."

The warning issued to the American citizens state that other potential targets for the Boko Haram are:
