High-level Japanese and North Korean officials meet in Pyongyang

According to the North's official Korean Central News Agency, Isao Iijima, an advisor to Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, held talks in Pyongyang with Kim Yong  Il, a senior official of North Korea's ruling party.  While details of the meeting hasn't come out yet, they are believed to have discussed the issues on North Korea's abductions of Japanese people in the 1970s and 1980s, in which 17 nationals are believed to have been abducted including five who were repatriated in 2002.  Glyn Davies, U.S. special representative for North Korea policy said he would decline to make any comments on this issue until he would be able to talk to Japanese officials in person.
