On
Thursday, a report was released stating that women cannot run for president in
Iran’s June election. Although women are not allowed to run for president, they
can run to become lawmakers in Iran’s parliament. So far, 686 people have registered
to run for president—replacing Mahmoud Ahamdinejad. Even though the
constitution states that women cannot run for president in Iran, the women in
this country do have more political freedom than the women of Saudi Arabia and
Afghanistan.
