Another Military Coup in Burkina Faso

Last year, October 2014, Burkina Faso citizens took matters in their own hands to halt the dictatorship of Blaise Compaore who have been ruling the country for 27 years. However, the initiated transitional government led by President Michel Kafando has since faced difficulties of transitioning the country to a democracy mainly due to a small faction of the military known as the Presidential Security Regiment(RSP) . As the article puts it "What is more largely at play here is the tension between aspirations for change and the conservative desire to maintain order." To put it another way, the RSP is facing uncertainty for their future mainly caused by a new proposal of dismantling it[RSP]. It was published by the transitional government the day before the coup.
In conclusion, fear and uncertainty of the future of Burkina Faso is at large on either side, especially since RSP is very unpopular among the citizens but holds military power over the rest of the country. In addition, the coup comes only a few days before the scheduled elections on October 11 which is a major setback on the transition to democracy.
