Pope
Francis’ visit to Cuba is not only an invitation for Cubans to join the
Catholic Faith but it is also an indicator of Cuba’s interest to integrate with
the world. The Vatican is in a unique position to mediate dialogues between
Cuba and Unites States. Pope Francis’ primary agenda is to persuade the United
States to end its fifty year embargo against Cuba. The Cuban people expect Pope
Francis to not only expand the Catholic religion but to advocate for social improvement
in Cuba. The Catholic Church is not willing to directly intervene in internal
conflict within a country but it clear that Pope Francis’ visit to Cuba is far
more than symbolic. Positive
technological changes are heading to Cuba as Internet and telephone companies
are some of the first industries prepared to establish business in Cuba. Although
the Cuban government can open its border and engage in trade, Cuban citizens
may require some time to adjust to new technologies and the inevitable change
that will alter the landscape of the island.
