Can the US be realist about the refuges ?

United State announced that the will increase the number of refuges to 85000 in the coming year . The secretary of state John Kerry stated that "this step is keeping with America's best tradition as a land of second chances and a beacon of hope". This initiative by Obama government's is step to show that the role of United State as a universal power and being realist and supporting the refuges who are escaping from the civil wars in Syria and from other places around the world. This action is also supporting Germany and their work with this heated debated that is became todays heated debate in Europe .It may encourages other countries in Europe to open their borders and host the refuges . From other side the statement of the US government may face some negative feedback from the Americans due to the cost of hosting refuges will be 1.1 billion $ for 70000 also could the next American government continue this policy since some candidate for the presidency are against refuges and against immigration in general.
Would the US became a model in supporting the refuges and give them the chance to start a new life ? would Obama be realist and take more decision about this ?
