President Obama Welcomes Pope Francis
My father has never been a believer in the catholic church or its leaders, however since Pope Francis was inducted into office, my dad admits that the catholic church finally has a "real" person as a Pope. Although his statement is pretty vague, I understand what he means by it because I too think that Pope Francis keeps it pretty "real."
The Pope has been criticized for being too much of a "lefty" and not enough of a Catholic...allegations to which Pope Francis has jokingly responded with, "Would you like me to recite the creed so that I can prove that I am Catholic?" "Lefty" or not, the truth is that Pope Francis has been involved with international political and economic affairs.
Prior to the United States and Cuba meeting to better relations, Pope Francis had written letters to both Obama and Castro urging them to 'sit down and talk.' Now, with the Syrian crisis, Pope Francis has written to leaders in Europe asking to have mercy and sympathy on the migrants.
Now that he is in the U.S. Pope Francis plans to address matters such as climate change, income inequality, and wars. Matters that many think that he should speak about on his free time and that have earned him the title of lefty and even that of a communist.
Now, we'll have to wait and see how America responds to Pope Francis and his tour of the U.S.
