It has come to the attention of the French government that French citizens are becoming the targets for recruitment by the Islamic State with the intention of carrying out attacks on France and other European countries. With new intel, suggesting detailed planned attacks aimed at France, gathered by France's intelligence department. They are forced to begin airstrikes on Syria and other countries harboring Islamic State radicals with known training facilities within their borders. France plans on joining US airstrike plans becoming a joint operation with hopes of subdoing the radicals and preventing future attacks in France, with Paris being a main target. France has been trying to keep track of their citizens that have made reached out to the extremist group and stay up to date on their individual whereabouts. The country is being forced to consider the possibility of killing some of their own citizens in these air strikes with the hopes of preventing death and damage within French boarders by these French Islamic State members. There's is a genuine concern that the number of French citizens joining the Islamic State may become too many to keep track of which raises a huge threat.
When reading this article seems clear that France's government is behaving as a realist, looking out for their own interest and the continued survival as a country. With the alarming growth of French citizens becoming involved with the terrorist group their interests shift the become more aligned with the U.S.'s suggesting there will be more of an equal involvement in the future in regards to the war on terror. I am curious to see if France decides to attack Islamic State training facilities knowing their are French citizens present at the locations. How do they morally handle the situation and what could the potential backlash be?
