China Earthquake Rescue Steps Up

After a quake killed more than 600 people in a mountainous region of China, they increased their support and poured in emergency relief about a day after the earthquake struck. Thousands of people are exposed to the harsh weather conditions because of the devastating earthquake that destroyed their homes and businesses. Volunteers and relief troops are searching the rubble for any survivors they can find. Although almost 1000 people were found and rescued, there are still 300-400 people buried under collapsed buildings. Also, due to the location where the quake hit, emergency support is facing extreme logistical difficulties. This is partly due to the harsh weather at this time of year, but also the thin air way up in the mountains and the lack of communication poses great difficulty for both relief troops and victims. Thankfully the civil affairs ministry sent 5000 tents and medical supplies to assist in the aid.
