Google Hurts Businesses and Academics by Leaving China

On Monday, Google closed its Chinese site and began redirecting its users to its Hong Kong-based service engine. It is believe that this could have a major effect on businesses and universities in China. Even though the majority of China's 400 million internet users may not be affected by these changes, university students and scientists rely heavily on Google for research and new information that they are not able to procure through Chinese search engines. Google leaving could also decrease Engineering talent. There is now one less multinational to hire graduates and train them at a higher level. And it need not be mentioned, that this change will affect those journalists who might want to report on international news.
