Genetically modified (GM) maize blocked from Kenya

The cargo of gentically modified maize comes from South Africa who mainly ship maize to Kenya. Protestors are upset because there are claims that there has not been any safety checks on the maize to ensure that it will not contaminate the soil. There was a 40,000 ton shipment that was prohibited from entering Mombasa. GM imports have been banned in several African countries. South Africa's Department of agriculture, forestry and fisheries have approved of their production of maize. While Anne Maina the spokeswomen for the Kenyan Biodiversity Coalition told the BBC that the Kenyan government fail to carry out health and saftey checks on the maize.
