After being seized three days prior, a Turkish vessel off the coast of Kenya has been abandoned by its pirate captors. The Turkish ship, The Yasin C, was seized on Wednesday by Somali pirates while traveling to the Kenyan city of Mombasa. It is unclear why the pirates abandoned the ship, but motives could include the vessel's lack of ransom value to its mechanical problems. The crew remained locked in the engine room until the pirates had abandoned the vessel, resulting in all 25 members remaining unharmed during the captivity. In the past few years, pirates have been seizing numerous ships in the Indian Ocean and Gulf of Aden and have recently expanded the area of their attacks. The U.S. Navy has often clashed with pirates in the Gulf of Aden, and recently captured 6 suspected pirates.
