Resulting from the clashes between Thai troops and opposition supporters in Bangkok, so far at least 20 people are now reported to have been dead and more than 800 got hurt. Soldiers and police failed to calm down the situation. They fired tear gas and rubber bullets while protestors heaved petrol bombs. Earlier confrontations left several people with gunshot wounds. Hundreds of red-shirted opposition supporters drove their way into government offices in the northern cities. Right on that day, Prime Minister Vejjajiva spoke on air that the troops had been set back and he showed his empathy to families of victims. Some protesters were accused of using live bullets and grenades. Jatuporn Prompan, red-shirt leader requested King Bhumibol Adulyadej to intercede for the sake of preventing further deaths. The red-shirts are demanding that Mr Abhisit has to disperse parliament and take action for holding an election. At the same time, tons of arrest warrants have been issued for all the protest leaders. This carnage is called “our darkest hour” by the Nation daily newspaper.
