Israel launches airstike on Syria targeting weapons, official says

On May 3rd 2013, Israel launched an airstrike in Damascus, Syria. The target was a weapons shipment from Syria "intended for Lebanon's Hezbollah militant group, according to an intelligence official in the Middle East". This was the first airstrike, the second airstrike occurred May 5th, according to Syrian state media the airstrike struck a research center in Damascus, and that there were numerous explosions as a result in numerous casualties.  "Initial reports point to these explosions being a result of Israeli missiles that targeted the research center in Jamraya," reported SANA, which is Syria's state news agency. Jamraya is about 10 miles from the Lebanese border."
"The official told The Associated Press that, as with Friday's strike, Israel's target was Fateh-110 missiles, which have very precise guidance systems with better aim than anything Hezbollah has in its arsenal. The official spoke on condition of anonymity in order to disclose information about a secret military operation to the media. The Fateh-110, or Conqueror, is a short-range ballistic missile developed by Iran and first put into service in 2002. The Islamic Republic unveiled an upgraded version in 2012 that improved the weapon's accuracy and increased its range to 185 miles."

I believe that these recent events have created a game changer to the Syrian Civil War. The actions taken upon by Israel could lead to more turmoil in the Middle East. In the next few days I would be paying special attention to what Iran says about the airstrikes and see their reactions. Some news sources have questioned whether actions taken by Israel are justified. I believe that if Israel believed that there was a clear and present danger to its national security, Israel has the right to defend threats to the national security of the state of Israel.
