Riot Police vs. Islamists in Bangladesh

In Dhaka, Bangladesh, the area near the largest mosque in the city has turned into a battleground in a fight between Islamist activists and Bangladeshi police.  Three people have already died and another sixty people have been injured as the police and the activists fought.  Police used "tear gas, rubber bullets, and truncheons" in retaliation to the stones thrown by the Islamist activists.  The activists are calling for those who insult Islam to face the death penalty; they also want to see atheists hanged.  Those stating these demands are members of Hefazat-e Islam, and they also want to see stricter Islamic education as well as more segregation of men and women.  The government will not impose the new blasphemy law that the Islamists want, saying "current legislation is adequate."
