Over the weekend, a shootout began between Sudan and U.N. officials in the disputed oil-rich border region of Abyei. Officials in Khartoum's Interior Ministry stated that, as of Sunday morning, 21 individuals were killed in the Abyei district along with two peacekeepers and 17 individuals that were a part of the Misseriya tribe. As the story continues to unfold, UN officials explained that one of the peacekeepers was killed Saturday afternoon during an altercation between the Dinka farmers and the Misseriya herders.
