The US and Russia have agreed to hold an international conference and urge Syrian President Bashar al-Assad as well as Syrian opposition. This comes in light of Syria's recently being accused of using chemical weapons on its citizens, which was condemned and conditioned as a "red line" for Obama. Now that pressure is on the Obama Administration to act, Secretary of State John Kerry and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey V. Lavrov have agreed to hold the peace conference "as soon as practically possible." As Syrian refugees rise in number and violence escalates, it is imperative that action be taken soon, especially because of the promise made by Obama.
