A Polish military plane carrying the president Lech Kaczynski and several important officials including the chief of National Security Office crashed at a western Russian airport killing everyone on board. The Polish delegation was enroute to Russia for the 70th anniversary of the massacre of Polish prisoners of war in the village of Katyn. Parliament Speaker Bronislaw Komorowski took over as the intertim president. Words of condolences poured in from different nations. The Polish Cabinet Ministers along with the Prime Minister held a special meeting to discuss the situation. One of the former official commented that the election must be held within 60days.
