“Syria’s Assad reportedly makes rare public
appearance”
The Syrian President, Bashar Assad, had visited a
Damascus power station after a bomb had hit the capital. The bombing at the capital
was the work of rebels who are trying to overthrow Assad. As the rebels
continue to over through the government, the rebels are accusing Assad’s allies
of aiding the Syrian military to stop the uprising. As tensions continue, Assad’s
public appearance may had been a tactic in gaining support for his government
by illustrating his legitimacy as a ruler and that he actually cares about his
people. With public appearances, any
government can show their legitimacy and prove that any rebels trying to take
over do not have that kind of legitimacy and are nothing more than terrorists.
