The son of the former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Gilani was kidnapped on Thursday before he ran for elections that were scheduled for this Saturday. It is thought that members of the taliban conducted the kidnapping in order to prevent Gilani from running and stop the democratic government. Numerous other events of violence have also occurred with the same goal in mind.
