According to a draft of Japanese Liberal Democratic Party's platform for the upcoming election, they are seeking to restart the nuclear reactors which have been shut down after the Fukushima nuclear disaster caused by the great earthquake and tsunami in 2011. This move is likely to upset voters who are opposed to nuclear powers after the incident. The loss of nuclear power has forced electrical utilities to concentrate more on thermal power generation and increase the imports of fossil oil.
As far as the 11-nation talks on TPP, the draft makes it clear that Japan will try to win tariff exemptions for sensitive products such as rice, wheat, and sugar. Also, the draft states the LDP's resolution to revise the Constitution, which means Prime Minister Abe is trying to shift Japan to the right.
