On Saturday, March 7th, Boko Haram made an audio statement pledging its allegiance to Islamic State (IS). This message was posted to the Boko Haram twitter account and has not yet been verified. That same day, Boko Haram has carried out frequent bombings from the groups beginning, killing thousands of people in the Nigerian northeast and the capital, Abuja. On Saturday, the group carried out at least five bombings, including several suicide bombings, in city of Maiduguri (Nigeria). These blasts left at least 50 dead. At least two of these suicide bombers were women.
