Since the implementation of the Alien Torte Statute in 1789, international business has become the business of the United States court systems and its laws. However, two years ago, tougher restrictions have been placed on the use of this very loose, very old law. Since its implementation, the law has been utilized by human rights lawyers seeking to make claims against businesses making legally questionable actions overseas. Advocacy groups are having a particularly difficult time with the hindrance of companies suing them back. While the progress of human rights movements is in the hand of many, the proverbial "blockade" of lawyers is making progress increasingly difficult. - Kaytlin St.Clair
